By early 2018 the Savannah Comrades, a local coalition of radical leftists based in Savannah, GA, had been active for over 2 years. Comprised of both anarchists and communists alike, the group aims to oppose systems of oppression at a local, personal level. This includes means of protest such as Food Not Bombs, which aims to bring attention to food waste in the world by preparing discarded food and serving it for free while we spend billions on war, and what is now known as the Savannah General Defense Committee, who are committed to protecting the oppressed, as well as teaching people how to safely use firearms to protect themselves. Albeit largely dispersed from Savannah, the member of the group continue doing their work today in an effort to better their communities.
